Nove anos depois do seu último trabalho de originais e de um cancro ultrapassado com determinação e valentia, a legenda americana John Prine está de volta aos álbuns de originais. Em «Fair & Square», Prine canta com uma alma renascida, cheia de emoções para partilhar, conduzindo o ouvinte, ao longo da audição dos 14 temas que compõem o álbum, a um doce carrossel de sensações.
Tal como outros mestres da canção americana, como Dylan ou John Cash, a voz de John Prine tem vindo a alterar-se profundamente. Alteração essa que vem transformando (para melhor) a forma de cantar de Prine.
Por incrível que possa parecer, este será muito provavelmente um dos melhores álbuns da carreira de John Prine, o que, para um músico com uma longa carreira e depois de um hiato forçado, é uma agradável surpresa.
Este é um álbum onde se encontram ao longo dos 14 temas praticamente todos os estilos musicais da música americana tradicional: folk, bluegrass, shuffles, vintage rock & roll, torch, country complementadas sempre brilhantemente pela criatividade do singer-songwriter.
Uma lição de vida de um homem maduro.
