Pregador da profunda verdade americana, Bonnie “Prince” Billy transborda em cada uma das suas canções do real para o irreal, galgando todas as margens. Autêntica, cheia de vida vivida num turbilhão desses que valem a pena, a sua música é um reflexo desarmante dos seus muitos fantasmas – os bons e os maus.

Como verdadeiro original que é, que sempre foi, Will Oldham (Bonnie “Prince Billy é um alter-ego que criou em 1998) ocupa um espaço à parte na orbe da música folclórica anglo-saxónica. Desde o tempo dos Palace (e das suas múltiplas derivações, Palace Music, Palace Brothers e Palace Songs) que vem cantando as palavras de amor e ódio que mais precisamos de ouvir, por vezes na companhia acidentada de outros espíritos livres como Jason Molina ou Scout Niblett. “Lie Down in the Night”, o seu álbum mais recente, é outro momento iluminado numa história discográfica excepcional, a que se regressa sempre.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy apresenta-se na ZDB com uma banda completa, a exemplo do que já tinha acontecido aquando do seu primeiro concerto no nosso aquário. Acompanham-no Ruby Kash (violino e voz), Joshua Abrams (contrabaixo), Emmet Kelly (guitarra) e Michael Zerang (percussão).
