O grande mestre celta está de volta com um trabalho capaz de, em alguns momentos, fazer o ouvinte recuar, mais de 15 anos, até ao brilhante «Avalon Sunset». Van Morrison é, no entanto, um homem amargurado com o mundo actual. O tema «Keep Mediocrity At Bay» pode ser mesmo considerado como uma espécie de manifesto de revolta, contra a mediocridade e vulgaridade tão em voga no globo.

«Magic Time» é o primeiro álbum que Van Morrison edita pela sua própria companhia discográfica, a Exile Music Recordings, e conta com a ajuda dos músicos Brian Connor (piano), Foggy Lyttle (guitarra), David Hayes (baixo), Liam Bradley (bateria) e Jerome Rimson (voz).

Este trabalho é uma confirmação de que existem músicos que sabem envelhecer, continuando a fazer, passados 40 anos de carreira, discos extremamente consistentes. Aqui a mescla entre os blues e jazz americano e a música tradicional celta e irlandesa, funciona na perfeição, sendo este um excelente álbum para ouvir no regresso de férias, ao fim da tarde e com um copo na mão.
